Paraguay Gains Access to Philippines Meat Market
Paraguay has achieved a significant milestone in its meat industry by gaining official access to the Philippine market for beef, pork, and poultry exports. This sanitary authorization marks a crucial step in expanding Paraguay’s presence in Asia, particularly in a rapidly growing market within Southeast Asia. The move is expected to bolster the country’s meat exports and reinforce its position as a reliable global supplier.
The Philippines, with a population nearing 115 million, represents a high-volume destination for animal protein exports. The Asian nation’s combined annual meat imports for these three species—beef, pork, and poultry—total approximately 1.5 million tons. This substantial demand, which triples Paraguay’s current production capacity, positions Paraguay to tap into a market with immense commercial potential.
The president of SENACSA (National Service of Animal Health and Quality) highlighted that this market opening is a direct result of Paraguay’s stable and reliable sanitary policies. This authorization solidifies the country’s image as a safe and competitive supplier, aligning with the stringent requirements of international markets. The achievement reflects years of coordinated efforts among meat producers, processing plants, and state institutions in maintaining high sanitary control and traceability standards.
Paraguayan health authorities emphasized that this accomplishment was made possible by adhering to rigorous international standards. The collaboration between the public and private sectors has ensured the consistent application of practices that guarantee meat quality, innocuousness, and food safety. This comprehensive approach provides Paraguayan meat with a competitive advantage in high-value-added markets.

Entry into the Philippine market complements other Asian destinations that Paraguay has secured in recent years, further strengthening its footprint in the region. The diversification of export markets is a strategic priority aimed at reducing reliance on traditional buyers. This strategy ensures long-term stability and resilience for Paraguay’s meat export sector, mitigating risks associated with market fluctuations.
SENACSA has confirmed its commitment to continuing negotiations for market access in other countries across the region. The institutional objective is to broaden the scope of Paraguay’s meat exports and firmly establish the country as a trusted global provider of animal protein. This ambition is underpinned by a steadfast dedication to maintaining and enhancing high standards of meat quality and animal health.
