The platform Hellosafe has released the results of the 2025 Prosperity Index, which evaluates 186 countries based on indicators such as GDP per capita, GNI per capita, national savings, Human Development Index (HDI), Gini coefficient, and poverty rate. This approach aims to assess development from a comprehensive perspective, taking into account both economic and social factors that directly impact the population’s quality of life.
In this context, Paraguay ranks 14th among 23 Latin American countries evaluated, highlighting a lag behind neighboring nations. While the country has made notable macroeconomic strides—such as recently achieving investment-grade status—a pronounced social gap continues to hinder its growth potential and overall well-being. Disparities in access to economic, educational, and healthcare opportunities slow progress toward a more equitable society.
Experts agree that one of Paraguay’s main challenges lies in institutional strengthening. Without efficient and transparent public services, sustainable development is out of reach. The experiences of countries like Chile and Uruguay demonstrate that a strong state apparatus and inclusive public policies can significantly boost prosperity indicators.
Social justice also emerges as a key factor. Public policies must aim to reduce structural inequality, the result of years of inefficient or poorly executed decisions. Improving social equity would create more favorable conditions for sustained economic growth and stronger social cohesion.

Environmental stewardship is another critical element. Models like Costa Rica’s—combining economic growth with sustainability—clearly show how well-designed environmental policies can enhance quality of life. Paraguay, rich in natural resources, has the opportunity to adopt a green development agenda that supports both economic advancement and citizen well-being.
Lastly, there is a call to diversify the country’s productive matrix and expand its trade partnerships. Paraguay’s current dependence on the Chinese market, marked by a trade imbalance, limits its economic expansion. A strategy focused on openness and innovation could position Paraguay as a more competitive player on the global stage.
