China has maintained its position as Paraguay’s primary source of imports during 2024, reaching USD 5,183.1 million, equivalent to 32.5% of total international purchases. This volume represents a 1.4% increase compared to 2023, according to the foreign trade report from the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP).
Mobile phones constitute the main import category from China, representing 20% of the total with USD 1,027 million, although this amount shows a 36% decrease compared to the previous year. Paraguay imports approximately 7 million mobile devices annually, with about 90% destined for re-exportation, primarily to Brazil.
Brazil remains Paraguay’s second most important supplier, with a 24.7% share and a total value of USD 3,943.0 million, recording a 6.2% increase compared to the previous year. The main imported products include mineral fertilizers (USD 179 million), malt beer (USD 130 million), and automobiles (USD 126 million).
The United States ranks third with an 8.07% share, reaching USD 1,279 million, though experiencing a 10% reduction compared to the previous year. The main products imported from this market include diesel fuel, mineral fertilizers, and passenger vehicles.

Argentina ranks fourth with a 6.9% share, totaling USD 1,100.4 million, showing a 6.6% decrease compared to the previous year. Main imports from this country include gasoline (USD 115.8 million), cargo vehicles (USD 99.5 million), and medicines (USD 53 million).
The concentration of Paraguayan foreign trade is evident as more than 70% of imports come from these four countries, complemented by the European Union, which contributes USD 1,153 million in annual imports.
